2011 Oscar

Welcome ladies and gentlemen,
This year's big event for movies, actors/actresses, and directors will be aired on ABC on February 27th at 8 P.M. ET. The Red Carpet will take place a wee bit earlier which will be aired at 6:30 P.M. ET on the same day. That will be Sunday so unless you're out taking over the world I don't see why you should miss this.
Now, the vital information....this year's nominations!!!

I am not going to list every nomination in every category because that is horrendously extensive. Rather, I'll list the most talk-about and expected nominations.

First off and of course, we have nominations for Best Picture:

1. Black Swan with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis directed by Darren Aronofsky

2. The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale directed by David O. Russell

3. Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt directed by Christopher Nolan

4. The Kids Are All Right with Annette Benning, Julian Moore, and Mark Ruffalo directed by Lisa Cholodenko

5. The King's Speech with Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, and Derek Jacobi directed by Tom Hooper

6. 127 Hours with James Franco directed by Danny Boyle

7. The Social Network with Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield directed by David Fincher

8. Toy Story 3 with Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack directed by Lee Unkrich

9. True Grit with Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, and Matt Damon directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen

10. Winter's Bone with Jennifer Lawrence, Shelly Waggener, and Garret Dillahunt directed by Debra Granik

So far I have not seen all of the movies yet. I have seen some but not all so it's going to be hard for me to make any predictions. However, I have the feeling The Social Network will claim a lot prizes because it already did at the Golden Globe Awards so it could be a potential. The other potentials are Black Swan and The Kids Are All Right as I have seen a descend load of good critics for them.
Well, this is open interpretations and predictions. Please feel free to let me know what movie you think deserves the award or what movie that you would like to see win.

  1. Natalie Portman deserves her nomination, she had a wonderful performance as a really insecure and perturbed woman. The portrayal of the dance world made me scared because it reminded me a little of when my best friend was dancing 24 hours a week. She lost so much weight and her instructors called her fat and she believed them. Now it wasn't as scary as the movie.
I actually don't agree with you that Social Network is going to win so big. Andrew Garfield was snubbed for his performance and for some reason the Oscars love to award movies about old British royalty.

Overall I think the nominations are pretty thorough and great, the only snub that really upset me was Christopher Nolan for Inception.

  2. I haven't seen all of these yet either but I agre with your predictions. I'd put my money on Black Swan to win because I really want to see it and have heard it was exceptional. Yay Natalie Portman!!!

  3. I agree with Eden about Natalie's nomination, she was absolutely phenomenal in Black Swan, and it was a huge departure from her previous, more headstrong roles. The Academy did a pretty good job in giving out nominations this year, and they included some lesser-known films in the awards season, which makes me happy. How to Train Your Dragon, whose music had been snubbed at all other awards ceremonies, was nominated for Best Original Score.
Still, it wouldn't be the Academy Awards without a few unjust snubs, like (as Eden mentioned) Andrew Garfield and Christopher Nolan. The most shocking snub, in my opinion, is that Tron Legacy was not nominated for Best Visual Effects. I literally do not understand how that happened.

  4. Yeah George that sounds reasonable but I think the reason is Tron Legacy is typically generic if anything. Perhaps that is why it was not nominated.
Eden, Natalie Portman is a great actress and also very smart (She went to Harvard) pretty sure you already knew this. However, in my opinion, she cannot surpass Leonardo DiCaprio in Inception. Inception is constructed of well-cast feature, complicated yet surprisingly creative plot, and lastly phenomenon special effects. I'm just not sure about the entire competition with other well-plotted movies.
    Hello Nickie.
